A number of parameters determine the performance of your stove. We offer a simplified method for an initial assessment. Your fitter will take all parameters into consideration and make accurate calculations. Do consult him.
The chimney
.The flue should be as straight as possible.
.The ideal solution is a flue built inside the building and thermally insulated. Outside flues without insulation should not be used.
Draught
A fireplace will only work properly if the draught of the chimney attains at least a minimum value and does not exceed a maximum value. We will call these two values the ?Stûv coefficients' (T). These coefficients are shown for the full range of Stûv stoves in the table opposite. The chimney draught is determined by a coefficient T, calculated according to the following formula :
Comments
. An excessive draught can always be reduced ; draught can be increased by installing a mechanical extractor.
. The chimney must be swept once a year.
. The draught may be disrupted by a powerful kitchen extractor hood, by some forced air central heating systems, or by the flue effect of a stairwell or a mezzanine. Consult your installer.
.Never connect a fireplace to a flue with a cross-section smaller than that of the outlet provided (except by agreement with Stûv).
